AfricaDestinations in Africa
As the second largest continent on earth, Africa is a symbol of the human race’s origins, a cradle of life that has a total of 11,677,240 square miles of landmass and 800 million inhabitants living in 54 countries.
Africa is still very much an undeveloped land, with climates ranging everything from arid desert to tropical rainforests; long, glimmering coastlines to cultivated fields marked by slash and burn agriculture; prosperous cities in South Africa that still haven't quite been tamed by industrialization to poor thatched roof villages.
If you’re fascinated with ancient Egyptian culture, why not step out of the stuffy museum and come see the ruins and relics of this once great civilization in Egypt itself? Half-buried in shifting dry sands with the harsh sun beating down overhead, the Nile still cutting a swath through the land and nourishing the people as it had done for centuries, you just can’t simulate that authentic aura of time any way - or anywhere - else.
Perhaps you want to be dazzled by some of the world’s most amazing and majestic creatures like giraffes, lions, wildebeasts, elephants, and zebras in the wild lands of their own natural habitats. There’s no better place to have your breath taken away than a wild safari in Kenya, where the animals gather together at watering holes at sunrise and sunset or trample across long stretches of barren grasslands during migration seasons.
There is a mishmash of cultural flavors spread throughout the continent, from Arabic and French influence in the northern, dry area of Africa to until-just-recent Dutch occupation of South Africa. And, of course, there are the heavily prevalent indigenous roots that can never be completely eradicated, even by by European colonization.
Today, Africa still remains wild and free, straddling the line of a colonized past and coming into its own as individual, unique countries with a wealth of potential. Its startlingly beautiful and often challenging climates reflect this spirit, and to witness its raw and untamed glory is an experience that should be felt at least once in a lifetime.
