Alabama’s unique architecture is an experience in itself, its grand homes telling a story of a remarkable and captivating past. In the southeast, the River Heritage Region provides breathtaking scenery, nature walks, camping and hiking, including a few hidden gems for the canny traveler to seek out. Visitors can stop by Marengo County to see Gaineswood, a magnificent estate, the center of a former cotton plantation. Alabama’s Gulf Cost Region, located in the southwestern part of the state, is home to tropical beaches, world class resorts, electrifying Mardi Gras celebrations, and a beautiful climate. Museums and historic locations are also plentiful in this region, among them the Museum of Mobile, and the USS Alabama, a massive WWII battle ship and floating museum. Alabama’s citizens are friendly, waters are warm, and food is unique and flavorful (think crawfish, barbeque, and country-fried steak next to fillet mignon and King Crab).
