Arizona

Arizona epitomizes the Old West with its long stretches of land, dry climate, and legendary cowboy figures that represented the wild spirit of the American frontier. From its stretches of sky to the majestic Grand Canyon, Arizona is a bed of natural beauty, Native American and Hispanic culture, and old lore, drawing people from all over the world to its water-carved rocks and endless horizons.

As one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon delves more than a mile deep into 277 miles of northern Arizona. Visitors can access the canyon by foot, train, mule, boat, or plane and have the option of either camping or staying at one of seven hotels.

Phoenix, Arizona's capital, is the fifth largest city in the U.S. and a bustling metropolis for the state with eight sports teams in baseball, football, basketball, hockey, soccer, and lacrosse. But is nearby Flagstaff that holds most of the cultural charm in the region, with antique inns, vegetarian cafes, and old western feel.

Drop by Tucson to explore Biosphere 2, a manmade, enclosed ecological system, or the Old Tucson Studios where many classic Westerns were filmed. The Tucson Gem and Mineral Show is a huge draw every February where more than 35,000 people attend to trade, collect, or simply take in the thousands of glittering gems and minerals put on display each year.

Tucson and Phoenix also serve as a central spring training grounds for a significant number of major league baseball teams including the California Angels, Arizona Diamondbacks, the Chicago Cubs and White Sox, the San Diego Padres, and the Seattle Mariners.
