BahamasDestinations in Bahamas
Practically synonymous with the word paradise, the Bahamas have long since been the number one tropical getaway that vacationers turn to, especially to escape the cold winter months. Its celebrated series of islands -- 700 of them along with 2500 cays -- contain white and pink sand beaches, palm trees, good food, friendly locals, and an entire atmosphere devoted to making you relax.
The capital of Nassau is often the point where many cruise ships dock and unleash their torrents of tourists. The city is laden with Old World architecture, heavily modernized but still containing a touch of Caribbean flavor. Downtown, the city is a bustling commercial district and urban center, catering to the flocks of tourists descending upon the city with a vast array of shops, restaurants, clubs, and bars.
Second to Nassau is Grand Bahama, popular for its gambling, duty-free shopping, Freeport Lucaya areas, and endless white sand beaches. If you look hard enough, there are other treasures to be found, like the lush Cuban pine forests with plenty of wildlife.
Eleuthera and Harbor Island boast the famous pink sand beaches that the Bahamas are known for. They’re a magnet for socialites with their chic club resorts, 200-year-old architecture, snorkeling, and Dunmore Town.
If you want to get off the beach, try Long Island, arguably the most scenic island in the Bahamas. Cliffs edge along the island’s windward coast, breaking crashing waves. The northern coast is one long stretch of white sand beach, Cape Santa Maria. There is an excellent reef that is good for snorkeling, scuba diving, and sport fishing.
