Dallas

Dallas is the most popular tourist destination in Texas, with over 2 million people coming to visit per year for both business and leisure travel. The city’s history is based on trade and commerce; that tradition continues today in “The Big D,” with more shopping centers per capita than any other city.

One of the premier attractions in Dallas is Fair Park, a 227-acre area on the National Historic Register. Fair Park is home to nine museums, including the African American Museum, the Dallas Museum of Natural History, the Dallas Aquarium, and the Science Place. The Cotton Bowl, site of many sporting events and concerts, is also located at Fair Park. Fair Park is the home of the Texas State Fair, the largest annual fair in the United States.

If you’re interested in American history, conspiracy theories, or both, check out the Sixth Floor Museum, a space dedicated to the life, work, and assassination of John F. Kennedy. Or, for a cheerier experience, the Six Flags over Texas theme park in nearby Arlington is one of the oldest and best theme parks in the country.

The Dallas Arts District, just north of downtown, features the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center (designed by world-renowned architect I.M. Pei), the Trammel Crow Center Pavilion, and the Dallas Museum of Art. Also close to downtown is the stunning Arboretum, 66 acres of garden space that blooms year-round in Dallas’s mild climate.

Sports in the Dallas area include baseball’s Texas Rangers, the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, and the NHL’s Dallas Stars. The Dallas area has about 150 public and private golf courses.
