Destinations in England

Your first stop in England will most likely be the capital city of London, one of the most international cities in the world with over 7 million inhabitants.

In addition to being a major world city with significant influence in fashion, music, politics, finance, and the arts, London is rife with history, where many significant events of western civilization have played out. Walk around in Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park or shop along Oxford, Regent, and Bond Streets. See a play in the West End or sightsee in Leicester Square.

If you fly into London, it’s best to continue your trip visiting south of England, especially Brighton, Cornwall, Dorset, Winchester, and Stonehenge. The White Cliffs of Dover are not to be missed for their sheer majesty.

Come see one of the prehistoric man’s most mystifying artifacts, Stonehenge, in the hair-raising Salisbury Plain or walk along the famous boardwalk and beaches of picturesque Brighton.

Relive Arthurian legend in Cornwall, where it is said that the old magic and folklore still exists. The ruins of St. Ives, St. Agnes, and St. Just draw many visitors each year for their sheer romance.

Visit the small town of Plymouth where the first Pilgrims set sail for the new world and Sir Francis Drake looked out for the Spanish Armada.

For a bit of Roman history, make sure to include Bath in your itinerary, most famous for its bathhouses fed by three hot springs. With its beautiful architecture and surrounding area, it’s an ideal quiet town to languish in for respite. Catch a play or two in one of its three theatres or stop by Bath Abbey for the largest concert venue in the city, Klais Organ.

Start moving up north to drop by Birmingham, England’s second largest city and one of its most diverse culturally. In 2004, it was voted the second best place to shop in England after the West End in London. Some of its most popular attractions include the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Millennium Point, and Tolkien Trail.

Just make sure that if you drive, drive on the left side of the road!
