French RivieraThe French Riviera, also known as the Côte d’Azure, is the sprawling coastline shared with Italy on the Tyrrhenian Sea. With its mild climate, clean beaches, and clear waters, the Riviera is a popular tourist draw all year round and encompasses the well-frequented cities of Nice, Cannes, and the independent city-state of Monaco.
Nice was originally a city of old English aristocracy, a characteristic still heavily prevalent in the city today. Its most famous feature, by far, is the Promenade des Anglais, a beautiful, pristine walkway skirting along the Mediterranean coast and adorned with palm trees and coated with a clear, blue sky.
Today, the promenade is now more of a boardwalk, a site of joggers, rollerbladers, and walkers, as well as hordes of tourists flowing in and out of the famous buildings like the grand Hôtel Negresco and the elegant Salon Louis XIV and Salon Royale.
Cannes is a busy, bustling city along the sparkling Azure Coast, holding several festivals and conventions all year round and thus, usually a hot bed of visiting famous faces, especially in May when the city is coated with film billboards, celebrities, paparazzi, and parties for the Cannes Film Festival.
