MalaysiaDestinations in Malaysia
Humid, steamy, and undeniably exotic, Malaysia presents an irresistible seduction for the excitement-craving adventurer. It provides an extreme of wealthy, Westernized cities and untamed jungles, sunny beaches and indigenous cultures.
Over 26 million people call Malaysia home, mostly a mixture of Malay, Indian, and Chinese ethnicity. The country itself is physically divided over two geographical regions parted by the South China Sea.
Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur, is also its largest city, a roaring tiger of a city that built itself to magnificent heights from nothing in merely 130 years. Among its towering spires is the world’s tallest building while down at ground level, the streets are crowded with people and bustling local markets.
One of the most relaxing areas in Malaysia can be found in the fertile Cameron Highlands. Its relatively elevated altitudes give the area some respite from the intense heat that plagues the plains and its attractions include jungle walks, waterfalls, tea plantation tours, and breathtaking gardens. Visitors can play golf, tennis, or embark on long, lazy walks.
Georgetown on Penang Island is the oldest British settlement in Malaysia and has since become one of the country’s best resort areas, its beaches being its main attraction. However, the city itself is vibrant, more Chinese in flavor than either Singapore or Hong Kong, with neighborhoods so old that you think you had stepped back in time.
