Maryland

There are many reasons why Maryland is a popular tourist destination, whether it's the warmth and friendliness of its 5.5 million residents, the natural beauty of its varied landscapes ranging from the Allegany Mountains in the west to the Atlantic coast in the east, or the delicious taste of blue crabs fresh from the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland is a picturesque example of old-fashioned east coast, seaside charm. Come to Maryland and explore the many treasures the Old Line state has to offer.

Maryland's western region holds a wealth of opportunity for outdoor lovers with its rural scenery and rugged terrain. Hike the Appalachian Trail, climb Backbone Mountain, Maryland's highest mountain, or choose from a number of different activities like whitewater rafting, fishing, and several winter sports.

Montgomery County, just a stone's throw from the nation's capitol, is home to the Natural Audubon Society and Glen Echo's famous antique carousel. Central Maryland holds two of the state's major cities, Annapolis and Baltimore, and lies along the Chesapeake Bay.

Annapolis is proud to be the location of the U.S. Naval Academy where over 4,000 midshipmen live in Bancroft Hall, one of the world's largest dormitories. Baltimore is the state's cultural center, serving as the location of Edgar Allen Poe's house, the backdrop of independent film director John Water's humorous films, and home to the oldest school in the U.S., the Peabody Conservatory of Music.

And who can forget the Baltimore Orioles? Come see a game of America's favorite pastime at Oriole Park (the only ballpark, by the way, that serves up crab cakes alongside hotdogs!).
