MilanMilan. It’s Italy’s fashion and business capital, rivaling cities like New York and Paris, where the stock market shares equal space with Dolce & Gabbana and Georgio Armani.
In Milan, shopping is a pleasurable way of life, in addition to club hopping, dining, theater, and cinema. If you’re looking for an urban tableau, then Milan is your perfect city.
Of course, it isn’t all sleek modernity. Milan can boast its own share of culture and history along with her sister cities. The Castello Sforzesco, an old military fortress remodeled by Leonardo da Vinci, has been transformed into an extensive art gallery housing works by Tiepolo, Mantegna, Michelangelo, Bellini, Correggio, Titian, and Van Dyck.
Da Vinci’s decaying Last Supper, one of the most famous paintings in the entire world, can be found in the convent of Cenacolo Vinciano.
Like Florence, Milan has its own Dumo, one of the largest churches in the world featuring Gothic spires, statues, pillars, and flying buttresses. Amidst this décor is a huge gilded copper statue of the Madonna. The view from the roof is said to be the city’s finest.
