South Padre IslandLocated in Cameron County, Texas, South Padre Island is a popular spring break destination for those U.S. college kids who want a little exoticism in their vacation without having to worry about travel documents or customs. It's right on the U.S./Mexico border and can be accessed by highway just as easily as by boat or plane.
The town's main attractions are its beaches; thirty miles of coastline are consistently ranked among the top five beaches in the U.S. In addition to swimming, surfing, and sun-tanning, you can go horseback riding, windsurfing, scuba diving, kite boarding, and parasailing. You can even legally drive on the beaches as well.
If you're looking for a little less sand, then opt for one of the U.S. most famous water parks, Schlitterbahn Beach WaterPark. Head on over to the Padre Island Trading Co, which serves up great coffee as well as a taste of the local culture. It's a good place to spot a few celebrities and taste some of the best chili in the state.
