ThailandDestinations in Thailand
The Kingdom of Thailand’s mystique draws more visitors each year than any other country in Southeastern Asia. The combined irresistible pull of its breathtaking scenery, reverent temples and ancient ruins, warm hospitality, and colorful cuisine make Thailand an exotic and fascinating country to visit.
Thailand has been significantly influenced by Western culture, but still carries its own unique and distinctive charm. The country’s capital, Bangkok is a hot and steamy bed of big city life, with throbbing dance clubs and Western-styled malls. Yet, amidst this seemingly soulless concrete lies serene temples and relics of ancient Thailand culture.
Ayuthaya Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a place where you will simply trip over historic ruins. Several temples are scattered throughout the area, relics of a once great city. There are simply so many temples and old buildings here that you can only see them all on foot, bicycle, and by boat.
Thailand’s other big city in the north, Chiang Mai, is another popular tourist destination. Set in the mountains, this city contains over 300 temples that you simply won’t have enough time to go through them all. However, there are other enticing attractions within the city, including several other museums, city gardens, and lively neighborhoods.
The island of Phuket, more often dubbed the “Pearl of the South,” is another popular tourist destination. Heavily tourist-oriented and cosmopolitan, Phuket still retains its cultural spark. While the beaches are great for lazing about on, there are also many interesting markets, temples, and nature reserves that are worth a curious look.
