VancouverThe largest city in British Columbia with a population of over half a million people and third largest overall in Canada, Vancouver is the urban metropolis of Canada’s west, towering skyscrapers amidst white capped mountains, unspoiled green cedar rainforests, and sparkling bodies of water.
As the gateway to Asia and the East Indies, Vancouver is also home to many diverse cultures and nationalities, with some of its top-spoken languages ranging from English, Chinese, Tagalog, Punjabi, Italian, French, Spanish, and German.
There are so many things to do in Vancouver, whether you like to ski, shop, listen to music, sightsee, or simply walk around. The city boasts all the comforts and excitements of an urban setting along with the picturesque, majestic beauty of nature.
Start exploring the city right away by walking around downtown Yaletown and exploring its many shops, cafes, parks, and other businesses in this former warehouse district. You can stop by Granville Island for its public markets, fresh bakers, unique stores, and artsy atmosphere. From here, you can easily access Science World that makes learning about science fun and interactive.
Or, if you want to experience the sea breeze, head on through Stanley Park, one of the largest urban parks in North America. It has 1,000 acres of woodlands, flowers, trails, gardens, lakes, and beaches. You can take walk around the park on the scenic Seawall to quaint Dundrave or travel around Lost Lagoon and Beaver Lake to see various geese, swans, and raccoons. The kids will also enjoy Vancouver Aquarium and the children’s farmyard while you might want to play a game of tennis or golf.
Vancouver is a shopper’s paradise. Shop at British Columbia’s largest shopping and entertainment complex, the Metrotown Centre, which has more than 500 stores, 20 cinema screens, and a high-tech gaming complex. For an eclectic variety, Commercial Drive is sure to be a hit with quaint little shops, cafes, and art house theaters.
Serious shoppers can focus their energies on downtown Vancouver, including Robson Street, Granville Street, Main Street and Gastown which offers a huge variety of stores and supplies, both high end and bargain. It’s a rich area filled with many local establishments and businesses.
Love racing? You’ll enjoy the Molson Indy, Canada’s largest spectator sport and part of the CART Indy Series. Over 350,000 racing fans flock to this roadway to experience the excitement, adrenaline, and sheer speed of auto racing.
