Virginia

The Commonwealth of Virginia, one of the original 13 colonies, is both a source of American history and a birthplace and home to some of America's greatest leaders like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison.

Aside from the natural political tourist attraction that is Washington, D.C. up north, Virginia itself is a state that embodies the quiet, conservative beauty of the east coast with its unfurling vineyards, its stately old homes, and its ability to keep a foot in the past with eyes always looking towards the future.

With its mountains to the west, rolling hills in the center, and sandy coastal plains to the east, Virginia's varied terrain offers tourist a wide range of natural attractions. The Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah National Park are a great place to ski in the winter and hike in the summer while the Natural Bridge and its Caverns draw many a curious tourist with their natural wonder.

Wine connoisseurs will savor Virginia's famed vineyards, found in Monticello, Shenandoah Valley, the Eastern Shore, North Roanoke, and Rocky Knob. Learn your history by revisiting many Revolutionary and Civil War sites and cities along Virginia's northern and western lands like Alexandria, Arlington, and Petersburg, or perhaps a look at the elegant dwellings of Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, James Madison's Montpelier, or George Washington's Mount Vernon homes.

For those who gravitate towards the coast, Busch Gardens Williamsburg provides a visceral, wild treat while Virginia Beach attracts many visitors to golf, fish, bicycle, skate, surf, swim, and boat.
